This photo of the Tytherington Home Guard 40 Platoon D.Coy 6th Battalion Glos Regiment was taken by Veale & Co. Bristol in 1943. In January 2016 Eric Pitt (pictured) believes only three men are still living. Eric says that following his Home Guard Service in 1943 he was called up in November 1944 at age 18 for the Royal Navy to HMS Royal Arthur Skegness and then transferred to the Fleet Air Arm. He then qualified as an Air Mechanic (engines) and was posted to RAF Station Hednesford, Staffs, for technical training. It was here he spent VE and VJ day. In August 1953 he returned home to Tytherington and began work as a fitter in the Brabazon hanger at Filton.
